Finally, I get to review a book about one of my cousins—the African lion. This is a true story about a lion cub who was rescued from her evil mother who lived in a zoo in Tacoma, Washington. For some reason, she didn’t like this cub and threw her against the bars of the cage. Horrible mother!
Thank goodness some humans stepped in and rescued Little Tyke. They changed her bandages and gave her lots of milk. Well, guess what? Little Tyke grew up to be 350 pounds and lived with her rescuers, George and Margaret Westbeau, just like a domestic tabby cat. She watched TV from her favorite spot on the couch, lounged on the kitchen floor, and cuddled up to Margaret. Yep, we cats no matter what our size like a comfy life.
For some funny reason Little Tyke didn’t eat meat…humans call that vegetarianism. It is strange for a kitty to dislike meat, but what do I know.
Little Tyke was my kind of cat. She frolicked with the peacocks on the Westbeaus rescue ranch, protected baby chicks (no chicken dinner for Little Tyke), cuddled with lambs and kittens, and took road trips with her caretakers. Yea, a road trip! Little Tyke would ride in the car with her paws and shoulders sticking outside the car windows, the wind ruffling her fur. She often went to the beach and would play in the waves or chase her owners in the sand, leaving big paw prints. Way to go girl!
I like this book, because it reminds me of a fairy tale. There’s magic, wonder, and wonderful animal, who of course, is a member of the feline family. What more could you want?
So grab this book and read about a frolicking, awesome lion named Little Tyke.
My human care taker wrote a blog post on Little Tyke. Go to: thisandthatbyjudy.com and read, A 1950’s Fairy Tale: Grandpa and the Lion.
